University of Florida Health Disparities Research and Intervention Program

The UF Health Disparities Research and Intervention Program is a university-wide program based in University of Florida’s College of Medicine.  Dr. Carolyn M. Tucker, Florida Blue Endowed Chair in Health Disparities Research, serves as director of the program.  The mission of the program is to eliminate health disparities by fostering partnerships among patients, providers, community members, educators, administrators, and researchers in order to (a) promote health and well-being among underserved populations, (b) provide culturally sensitive health care, (c) recruit and retain professionals from racially/ethnically diverse backgrounds, and (d) eliminate the health disparities that plague our nation.

University of Florida Prostate Disease Center

The UF Prostate Disease Center, directed by Dr. Johannes Vieweg, is an interdisciplinary research and educational effort to facilitate the development of new and better diagnostic tools and treatment methods for prostate diseases and other urogenital diseases.  The Center is designed as a highly interactive research initiative that unites basic, translational and clinical researchers with an interest in the investigation of benign and malignant prostate and urogenital diseases.  It is the only interdisciplinary prostate disease-focused center in Florida and surrounding states.

NIH National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities

The mission of the NIH National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities is to lead scientific research to improve minority health and eliminate health disparities.  Funding for this conference was made possible (in part) by grant #1R13MD007621-01 from the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities.
